We have been transforming lives for over 10 years
In the last 10 years, we have gone from strength to strength in reaching 60 hard to reach mountain villages in South West Bulgaria where villagers have been helped to overcome poverty and receive proper medical care and spiritual support. We have witnessed many people turning to Christ and starting to live a new life as Christians. We have reached many orphans and offered them friendship, practical support and pastoral care.
On 14th August 2003 ‘Light for Bulgaria’ was officially established and registered as a charity in England.
We know that people have the power to change their lives and also of those around them. However many of those whom we help find themselves in desperate circumstances of great poverty, ill health and poor education. Our vision is to support them to overcome their difficult circumstances and to share with them the Christian faith.
Our aim is to reach:
- The elderly –often neglected, living alone in deprived conditions or in homes for elderly people
- Vulnerable children –those mentally or physically disabled, abandoned or living in institutions
- People with disabilities
- People with mental health problems
Our work is predominantly run by volunteers who live in the town of Sandanski or the surrounding villages. We currently have 15 volunteers and they are managed and supported by our charity leader Katia Chobanova. Our volunteers have worked with us for a considerable period of time, contributing invaluable time and skills to the organisation. We are committed to being an inclusive organisation.
Our work is carried out in partnership with many non-governmental organisations, government agencies, academic institutions, private companies, journalist networks and many more.
We particularly work closely with village mayors who aid us in helping their villages.
